HaRav Shteinman Addresses Kollel Bein Hazmanim Hamerkazi in Modi'in Illit

by Yated Ne'eman Staff

HaRav Yehuda Leib Shteinman delivered a special address to the 1,500 participants studying in the Kollel Bein Hazmanim Hamerkazi in Modi'in Illit.

Hundreds of Kollel participants, who are normally scattered in several botei medrash throughout the city, gathered on the Sunday morning after Tisha B'Av at Beis Medrash Siach Yitzchok to await the Rosh Yeshiva's arrival and begin the bein hazmanim learning program.

As the designated time drew near hundreds of additional residents arrived to greet the Rosh Yeshiva shlita and hear him offer words of chizuk. Even the adjoining streets filled with women and children eager to watch the special event organized to honor the Torah.

Upon his arrival HaRav Shteinman was received by the moro d'asro, HaRav Meir Kessler, roshei yeshivos, neighborhood rabbonim, Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Guterman and other notable figures.

HaRav Shteinman quoted the gemora in Sanhedrin (94a): HaKodosh Boruch Hu wanted to make Chizkiyohu the Moshiach and Sanncheriv would be Gog UMogog. The Middas Hadin said before HaKodosh Boruch Hu: Ribono Shel Olom, Dovid Melech Yisroel who said many songs and praises and You did not make him Moshiach, now Chizkiyohu for whom You performed so many miracles (against Sanncheriv) and he did not say any songs - will You make him Moshiach? Immediately the Land said: Ribono Shel Olom, I will say a song instead of this tzaddik, so make him Moshiach.

If there was a complaint against Chizkiyohu for not saying a song, what will it help of the Land sings? Chizkiyohu still would not have sung.

The Rosh Yeshiva explained that the world in fact stands upon Torah. And the gemora there explains that there was no generation in which there was so much Torah as under Chizkiyohu. So really no song was lacking because there is no song greater than this. That is what the Land replied. And Hashem really accepted the point. He did not say that it was not a good reply, just that He had a secret reason for not making Chizkiyohu the Moshiach. This shows how important Torah learning is.
