A rally was held Wednesday to pray, protest and express grief over the evil decree to raze the ancient Jewish cemetery in Jaffa. Gedolei Torah, admorim and rabbonim stood opposite the site, invoking the words of Selichos — "Aseh lema'an shochnei offor" — in impassioned calls against plans by the project heads and government authorities to continue harming Jewish graves at an additional site in the cemetery.
The rally was held to save the ancient cemetery from total destruction following months of constant excavation resulting in shameful grave desecration and patent disregard for the honor of the dead, despite sweeping opposition by Torah-true Jewry in Eretz Yisroel and abroad.
Now authorities are scheming to forge ahead with the project by destroying another section of the cemetery, a plan that would pose a further threat to the well-being of Jewish graves throughout Eretz Hakodesh and Diaspora communities.
Maranan verabbonon recently issued calls for more prayers and protest in order to reverse the decree after all efforts to engage government officials proved futile.
Wednesday afternoon's demonstration in Jaffa was preceded by a morning protest rally at Kikar HaShabbat in Jerusalem. Buses departed from Kikar HaShabbat and various other points around the country.
