Notice Warns Against MP4s and Internet Devices

By Yechiel Sever

Gedolei Yisroel warned against using various high-tech devices, including MP4s and mobile Internet devices, saying both types of devices "pose a threat to the sanctity of the Jewish home."

"Recently, small viewing devices are becoming more commonplace," according to the letter, which was written in the wake of a number of problem cases raised by menahalim and educators. "These devices are the counsel of the yetzer hora, to bring in the moral corruption of the street. One such device is the [MP4] player, which enables viewing videos, in addition to other similar viewing devices, as well as various small devices that can be connected to the Internet (either wireless or via cellular devices), which have been known to severely corrupt those who possess them."

Gedolei Yisroel shlita, who take a stand against various stumbling blocks and breaches that appear in constantly changing forms, are warning educators and parents who spare no effort to provide their children a proper education and upbringing, that this little device can bring a child down to the lowest depths.

"Due to their small size," reads the letter, "these devices bring users to things that are strictly forbidden, yet they can be easily hidden. In this manner many souls have already descended to the lowest depths, Rachmono litzlan."

"The existence of these devices within our camp," reads the letter, "imperils the sanctity of Beis Yisroel."
