Emergency Call Buttons Free for Holocaust Survivors
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Hundreds of Holocaust survivors can now contact the Yad Sarah
crisis headline and receive dental care at a very
substantially discount at the Yad Sarah dental clinic thanks
to a donation designated for the Foundation for Holocaust
Survivors in France.
A crisis button enables subscribers to contact Yad Sarah help
centers from anywhere in their apartment 24 hours a day.
Pressing a button attached to the arm activates an automatic
dialer. Upon receiving a call, the help center representative
at Yad Sarah is able to see subscriber information on the
computer — name, address, phone number disease history,
languages spoken, contact information for neighbors and
relatives living nearby, etc.
The help center representative can speak with a subscriber
anywhere in the apartment and summon assistance immediately:
an ambulance and first aid, a doctor, the police,
firefighters, relatives and neighbors. The help center
representative also provides an attentive ear, giving the
Holocaust survivor and their relatives a sense of security
and protection. Some 18,500 elderly people from around the
country are connected to the help center. Holocaust survivors
can hook up without paying a charge (except an NIS 150
deposit, which will be returned in full upon halting use).
Yad Sarah has over 100 branches around the country. Last year
the organization's 6,000 volunteers assisted 420,000 people.
Yad Sarah does not receive regular government funding and is
sustained through private donations.
