UTJ Revoked Threat Not to Back Government in No-Confidence Motion

By Eliezer Rauchberger

United Torah Judaism made a last-minute decision this week to support the government in the no-confidence motion raised during the Knesset plenum meeting — only after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu pledged to heed UTJ members regarding all religious issues and laws related to religious issues that come before the government and the coalition.

United Torah Judaism MKs say the government has come under fire recently for supporting laws with anti-religious ramifications that threaten to alter the status quo in violation of the coalition agreement. In particular the government was censured for supporting a bill that would impose tighter requirements on declarations made by girls requesting exemptions from IDF service on religious grounds.
