Alei Siach Launches High-Level Study Program for Learning Disabled Adults
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
Alei Siach is not sitting on its laurels. In addition to various recent advances, they have announced a new high-level study program for Alei Siach participants age 21 and over with major learning disabilities and slightly deficient or average intelligence. The program will provide the students an opportunity to feel they, too, can study successfully and advance.
For years these students have been considered a group that "falls between the cracks." They often yearn to lead normal lives, including independence, personal growth, achievement and fulfillment, but lacking suitable support and life-skills training, many opportunities in life pass them by.
The new program is designed to give students a boost and features small classes similar to those in specialized primary school programs.
The students must have a background in Torah and mitzvas, be able to read, write and communicate. The studies will be held at the Alei Siach branch in Jerusalem's Beit Vegan neighborhood, where they will take part in lectures and workshops, including a theoretical introduction.
Alei Siach Director R' Chaim Perkal said he sees the new program as a chance for his alumni to learn to maximize their ability to function independently as members of the community, adding that the program forms another building brick in Alei Siach's intensive activities and brings helps special-needs students reach achievements they never thought possible.
