Chareidi School Enrollment Continues to Rise in Jerusalem

The chareidi education system in Jerusalem opened the 5771 school year at talmudei Torah, primary schools and kindergartens with substantial growth in the number of students enrolled, kein yirbu.

While last year (Elul 5769) 9,026 students were registered in city preschools and kindergartens, this year 9,804 children will study there, showing an appreciable growth of 778 students. At private preschools and kindergartens 11,356 children are enrolled — 500 more than last year.

In Jerusalem's Chinuch Atzmai schools 16,340 students are enrolled, 273 more than last year's figures, and 3,042 students are enrolled in Maayan Hachinuch Hatorani schools, 51 more than last year. Enrollment in recognized but unofficial primary schools comes to 8,579 students, an increase of 143 compared to last year, while the city's talmudei Torah boost 16,916 students, 283 more than last year.

A total of 152 primary schools will open with 1,746 classrooms, including 31 new classrooms.

According to the Jerusalem Municipality's Department for Chareidi Education, at the post-primary level for boys (i.e. yeshivas) 11,682 students are enrolled, compared to 11,532 last year, along with 14,790 girls, compared to 14,600 last year.
