UTJ Blasts Shabbos Broadcast of Netanyahu Interview
By Yechiel Sever
United Torah Judaism issued harsh criticism after an interview Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu gave to the government television channel was broadcast on Shabbos day, showing a shameful lack of consideration for the sensibilities of Shabbos-observant Jews in Eretz Yisroel and the Diaspora.
Following the reports on the interview, which constituted an act of chilul Hashem in public view, Party Chairman MK Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Mozes contacted Coalition Chairman MK Zeev Elkin, asking him to convey UTJ's strong condemnation of the act of Shabbos desecration.
In response, Elkin said the Prime Minister's Office apologized for the error, saying it would not be repeated. He said the interview was recorded on a weekday and the decision to broadcast it on Shabbos was made by the Broadcasting Authority.
Rabbi Mozes said the incident was not just a problem for the chareidi parties, adding that the Prime Minister should show greater consideration for the many coalition members representing the religious public.
