Kehillos in Southern Israel to Gather to Hear Internet Warnings from Rabbonim

By Yechiel Sever

The various kehillos of southern Israel are uniting for a chizuk gathering to be held on Rosh Chodesh Av at Gan Hapecan halls in Netivot, where gedolei Yisroel shlita will discuss the serious prohibition against Internet use and the so-called chareidi websites.

"Whose heart does not tremble over the growing danger posed by the entry of foreign winds and the atmosphere of the nations into the pure homes of bnei Torah and their families," reads a letter sent to kollel heads and Torah institution managers in the South. "Every individual has an obligation to seek ways to put a stop to this evil — `shomrim hafkeid le'irecho.'

"Our leaders, based on consultations with gedolei hador shlita, have become aware of the need to organize a large chizuk gathering for all of the residents of the Negev and the South on Monday, Rosh Chodech Menachem Av, in the city of Netivot.

"We hereby request that [you] lend a hand and apply your thinking to the success of the gathering by bringing those who follow your teachings and heed you, informing them of the great obligation to be among those who place the Torah on its pedestal — even if this requires canceling an evening learning session — and to prepare hearts to heed and adhere to the decisions of the gathering."

The concluding paragraph reads, "And after we have done what is within our ability to do, our eyes are raised to Shomer Goy Kodosh, that He send forth a wind from the Heights, a wind of purity and sanctity, to bring our hearts to Him, to keep and to do and to fulfill."

The letter is signed by numerous prominent rabbonim from the South, including HaRav Yissochor Meir, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas HaNegev, HaRav Yaakov Friedman, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Tifrach, and HaRav Aviezer Piltz, another of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Tifrach.
