Chizuk Gathering Held for Members of Mexican Jewish Community

By Yechiel Sever

Members of the Mexican Jewish community gathered to hear divrei chizuk following the tragic death of R' Moshe Saba and his wife, son and daughter-in-law, zichronom livrochoh, in a helicopter crash outside Mexico City early last week.

The first speaker was Mexican Chief Rabbi Shlomo Tawil, who welcomed the roshei yeshivos and rabbonim from Eretz Yisroel, Mexico and New York who arrived to take part in the event.

The keynote speaker, HaRav Yitzchok Lorincz, one of the roshei yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah, where one of the victims, Alberto z"l, studied for a number of years and where his brother Chaim recently studied, conveyed messages from gedolei Torah in Eretz Yisroel to the members of the stunned community.

Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita said the ways of Heaven are unknowable and that all Hashem does is for the best. Rather than prescribing which areas were in need of chizuk he said every individual knows where he needs to improve in avodas Hashem. He concluded his message by blessing the kehilloh that they be spared from further loss and by offering his condolences.

The Rosh Yeshiva, HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman shlita advised them to make efforts to strengthen Shabbos observance, in particular to stop doing melochos 30 minutes before sunset, and to support Torah scholars. "In the merit of these two things, may HaKadosh Boruch Hu help prevent evil from befalling the families and the holy kehilloh," he wrote.

HaRav Kanievsky wrote that the Heavenly accounting is beyond our ability to fathom and that the kehilloh members must keep set times for Torah study and all those who already study on a regular basis should undertake more Torah study, and that will protect them.

HaRav Lorincz also delivered a message from HaRav Moshe Yehuda Schlesinger, the rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Kol Torah, saying, "HaKadosh Boruch Hu only sends trial to those who can grow stronger through them. The essential point is that Torah study protects and saves people. I extend my blessings to our student, Chaim, whose talents and abilities are familiar to me, that he manage to succeed his father o"h, and lead his family during this difficult time. In the merit of his toil in Torah study, may he be granted siyata deShmaya in the prodigious task that Heaven has placed on his shoulders."

HaRav Lorincz also presented words of chizuk for the family and the kehilloh from HaRav David Abuchatzeira.
