Jerusalem: Repair Work Started on Apartments Scorched by Succah Fire

By Yechiel Sever

Renovation work has gotten underway on six apartments in Jerusalem's Neve Tzvi neighborhood that sustained damage totaling NIS 300,000 as a result of a fire that started in the adjacent succahs.

The fire broke out at the start of Succos when Shabbos and Yom Tov candles ignited a succah on Rechov Avinadav, quickly spreading to the adjacent succahs and rising up to the fourth floor of the building. Through chasdei Shomayim nobody was harmed. Several firefighter and Hatzoloh units were summoned to the scene, eventually overcoming the flames.

Firefighters said the building's residents and their guests were spared a real disaster, saying that had the fire broken out later in the night dozens of lives would have been seriously endangered.
