HaRav Yehoshua Brisk zt"l
By A. Cohen
A large crowd headed by admorim and rabbonim was on hand Erev Parshas Nosso to lay to rest HaRav Yehoshua Brisk zt"l, the av beis din of Tsheka in Netanya, who passed away Friday morning. His petiroh left the city of Netanya bereft of a marbitz Torah who was closely involved in building up the Torah world and influencing the city's spiritual growth and development.
Yehoshua Brisk was born in Av 5692 (1932) in the town of Tsheka, Romania, to HaRav Aharon Tzvi Brisk, a descendent of the Kol Aryeh, the Beis Naftoli, the Pri Tzaddik and the Tosafos Yom Tov.
After he moved to Eretz Yisroel, HaRav Aharon Tzvi opened Yeshivas Maharam Brisk, a yeshiva gedoloh on Rechov Olei HaGardom in Netanyahu's Sela neighborhood, where for decades students followed the teachings of the Chasam Sofer zy"o. Among the yeshiva's alumni were HaRav Yehoshua, who continued learning Torah from his father and received semichoh. He devoted all of his energy to the study of Torah and Chassidus.
HaRav Yehoshua Brisk is survived by his widow, sons and sons-in-law. His eldest son and successor, HaRav Eliyohu Yitzchok, av beis din, of Tashnad-Monsey; Rabbi Aharon Tzvi, general secretary of Belz Institutions in Bnei Brak; Rabbi Mordechai, chairman of Kahal Machzikei Hadas and the Mahariatz Institute; Rabbi Avrohom Isser; HaRav Refoel, rosh kollel of Kollel Tsheka; HaRav Moshe Yosef Tishler, av beis din of Beis Din Maaglei Tzedek; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all following the path of purity he set forth for them during his lifetime.
