Archaeologists are racing to dig up dozens of gravesites at a Jewish cemetery in Jaffa to make room for a real estate venture.
The grave desecration is taking place at the corner of Rechov Yafet and Louis Prester, the site that became a point of friction 15 years ago until builders shelved construction plans following a series of demonstrations. Now, with the backing of the mainstream media and coming after the grave desecration at Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, excavation work at the site has been accelerated.
Knesset Finance Committee Chairman MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni and Public Petitions Committee Chairman MK Rabbi Uri Maklev sent an irate letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Culture Minister Limor Livnat and the general secretary of the Antiquities Authority, Shuka Dorfman, to voice the outcry of Torah-true Jews around the world to the systematic destruction of gravesites in Eretz Hakodesh.
Razing Jewish graves in Eretz Yisroel sets a very dangerous precedent that jeopardizes Jewish graves worldwide — in addition to the disrespect for the dead lying in the Jaffa cemetery.
