Justice Ministry Releases Court Records of Eichmann Trial
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
The Justice Ministry published for the first time the full Hebrew court records of Nazi murderer Adolf Eichmann, yemach shemo. Over 40 years have gone by since Eichmann was tried, but only now has the full record of the proceedings at the Jerusalem District Court and later an appeal at the High Court been released in Hebrew. The full text in English translation was published in eight volumes between 1992 and 1995.
The Foundation for the Publication of the Eichmann Trial Court Records has been working since 1982 to bring the court proceedings to print. Now, upon completing the writing and publication of the Hebrew edition, the trustees decided to also post the information on the Justice Ministry website.
The Hebrew text is made up of six volumes: three volumes of proceedings and sentencing given by a specially appointed bench of three judges, another volume containing the proceedings and sentencing in the High Court appeal, the defense counsel's claims, a Hebrew translation of depositions for the prosecution and the defense collected in Germany, Austria and Italy, and an index of names, terms and subjects. Two additional volumes contain Eichmann's original confession during the police investigation (2,250 pages) and a summary of the confession in Hebrew. Also posted on the website are 1,500 documents submitted to the court.
The publication of the bound editions, their distribution free of charge to educational institutions, research institutes, libraries and other institutions and their posting on the website was paid for by the Justice Ministry using legacy funds.
