Modi'in Illit Laying Groundwork for Kosher Power Station

By A. Cohen

Intense work has been underway for months at the future site of the kosher power plant in Modi'in Illit. Upon completion, the entire city will be connected to a power plant free of all concerns of chilul Shabbos, making it the first city ever powered entirely by electricity in accordance with the rulings of the Chazon Ish zt"l.

Starting immediately after Rosh Hashanah bulldozers and other heavy equipment rolled onto the rocky ground to dig, remove boulders, crush rocks and lay roads. Gradually the stony ground disappeared, making way for the construction of the unique facility.

Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Guterman made unprecedented efforts to obtain the certification necessary and to plow through various bureaucratic procedures.
