Plots to attack Jewish targets in Brazil and Morocco were thwarted last weekend.
In Brazil police arrested a neo-Nazi cell it believes were planning to blow up at least two botei knesses in the southern city of Porto Alegre. So far three homemade bombs have been found, along with knives and hundreds of items indicating the suspects' link to a Nazi organization, including propaganda books and articles of clothing bearing swastikas.
"A major tragedy has definitely been prevented since this is a sophisticated, well-organized group that hounds Jews and other minorities for the sake of `racial cleansing,'" said a ranking Porto Alegre police investigator. "Previously they were only involved in Nazi propaganda, but now they've begun attacks." He said the plot was uncovered during the course of an investigation of crimes related to gang warfare in the area.
Meanwhile in Morocco a recent arrest of Muslim extremists led to the discovery they had planned to attack Jewish targets and Moroccan security forces. Several suspects, who appear to belong to Al Qaida offshoot Salafia Jihadia, have already been indicted. The cell began operating in southern Morocco over a year ago and tried to recruit students at Koranic schools to infiltrate political parties.
