Jerusalem Chareidi Sector Unites Behind UTJ List and Rabbi Porush's Mayoral Bid

By Yechiel Sever

Jerusalem's chareidi sector is rallying behind UTJ's mayoral candidate, Rabbi Meir Porush and the UTJ city council list, which brings together Degel HaTorah and Agudas Yisroel under the "Gimmel" voting symbol.

Preparations for the upcoming municipal elections are in full swing at the UTJ campaign offices, where many campaign workers have been enlisted to help uphold the holy character of Jerusalem and retain the achievements posted in the elections five years ago, i.e. a chareidi mayor and large, strong representation on the city council.

Heading the UTJ campaign in Jerusalem is Rabbi Yitzchok Pindrus of Degel Hatorah, who occupies the second spot on the combined party list. The campaign offices set up all around the city are being run by top figures in the city's chareidi community and leading activists with experience in previous election campaigns.

The party's information office is also hard at work explaining the attributes of the UTJ list to every chareidi household and other potential voters, and the importance of electing Rabbi Porush as mayor to prevent the leadership of the city from returning to secular hands and the party's loss of influence on the city council.

If the chareidi sector fails to unite in support of the single chareidi candidate for mayor of Jerusalem the chareidi sector is liable to lose all of the progress made in the current term to promote the sanctity of Jerusalem and to meet the needs of the chareidi sector and the Torah-based educational institutions.

Shas has announced their support of Rabbi Porush.
