Christian missionaries descended on Haifa's Neve Shaanan neighborhood last week, going door-to-door and asking to discuss matters of "emunoh." Only after they had entered into conversation did the Jewish ladies realize the canvassers were trying to introduce seemingly harmless ideas that were in fact far removed from Yiddishkeit.
Based on complaints filed by neighborhood women, it seems that the Christian missionaries had the temerity to press their aims even at the homes of chareidi families, using various ploys to manipulate the conversation and leaving behind innocuous-looking reading material.
Irate residents said once they discovered who was behind the canvassing drive — Christian missionaries in chareidi attire — they immediately burned the brochures. However, others may still think the reading material discusses genuine issues of faith in Borei Olom.
In many cases the missionaries took advantage of Haifa residents eager to hear about Hashem and the Holy Torah, who invited them into their homes unwittingly. Because of this deception local residents are asking the police to seek out the missionaries and put a halt to their illegal propaganda campaign.
