Funding for 20 Yeshivos Ketanos Withheld

By Yechiel Sever

In an urgent letter to Attorney General Mani Mazuz, Atty. David Glass, representing the Union of Yeshiva Managers, stated objections to a decision not to approve the funding of 20 yeshivos ketanos that opened in 5768.

In his letter Atty. Glass noted that these institutions had passed all of the legal requirements, yet have not been provided funding by the Education Ministry following an unwritten directive by Atty. Dorit Morag, the Education Ministry's legal advisor, who offered no clear explanation.

The only certification these yeshivas lack is the inspection certificate, yet the longstanding educational institutions did not receive a signed inspector's report in 5768. The Education Ministry is deliberately overlooking the new institutions, although a law regarding this issue was passed and the High Court issued a directive that funds should be withheld only as of 5769.

In addition to Atty. Glass' letter, UTJ representatives in the Knesset are working to arrange funding for these yeshivas, which are bowing under the financial burdens they face.
