Hundreds of mispallelim at the main botei
knesses in Jerusalem's Neveh Yaakov neighborhood were
stunned upon learning that demolition orders had been issued
for two major botei knesses in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile construction has been halted on a mikveh in
Ramat Beit Hakerem.
Jerusalem's chareidi residents are voicing deep distress over
municipality officials' new trend of undermining tzorchei
tzibbur for the chareidi sector as the new secular mayor
prepares to take office. Bais Yaakov schools in Ramot Alef
had new legal troubles, followed by the demolition order in
Neveh Yaakov.
One of the two botei knesses is a large building and
the other is a large prefab. Both required extensive
resources and funding by their respective members to make
available worthy places of Torah and tefilloh.
Hundreds of Neveh Yaakov residents were astonished by the
demolition order, which cut short the legal proceedings
surrounding the two shuls.
Municipality officials were also responsible for ordering the
halt to construction on a mikveh in Ramat Beit
Hakerem, despite High Court decisions to go ahead with the
project.
