Mishmar HaTorah Meets to Discuss Tznius Issues
By Yechiel Sever
Mishmar HaTorah, the beis din for tznius issues founded by gedolei Yisroel shlita, met last week in the home of beis din member HaRav Moshe Shaul Klein and issued a call "to further buttress the boundaries of halacha regarding tznius and kedushoh as determined by our rabbonim, gedolei Yisroel shlita."
Mishmar HaTorah was set up by gedolei Yisroel to oversee and uphold modesty standards through clearly delineated parameters in accordance with daas Torah.
The meeting opened with a reiteration of the mandate the beis din was given by maranan verabonon and their call to the chareidi families and schools to adhere to the guidelines it establishes. The rabbonim noted HaRav Eliashiv's remark that "these guidelines are not excessive stringencies, but integral Torah precepts."
The rabbonim issued the following statement: "Modesty and sanctity have always been fundamental aspects of the Jewish religion and have distinguished us from the nations. Throughout the generations our forefathers dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the task of preserving the boundaries of modesty and reinforcing the ramparts of Jewish practices handed down since the time of Moshe Rabbeinu. In places where the walls of modesty were breached, Rachmono litzlan, [our brethren] fell by the wayside and vanished without a trace. It is incumbent on us to dissociate and distance ourselves from non-Jewish ways and the immorality running rampant on the street."
