The administration of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos - R' Meir Baal
Haness is ready to hold a series of events to mark the 150th
anniversary of the founding of the Torah and chessed
organization by gedolei Yisroel.
Kollel Shomrei Hachomos was founded in 5618 (1858) by the
Ksav Sofer and the Maharam Ash, a talmid of the Chasam
Sofer. These institutions gained renown for disseminating
Torah and for tzedokoh and chessed activities
for needy families.
At a meeting held in the home of HaRav Yitzchok Tuvio Weiss,
gavad of the Eidoh Chareidis of Jerusalem, a survey
was presented on the wide-ranging activities run by the
kollel. Headed by HaRav Yosef Lieberman, head of the Kollel
Shomrei Hachomos yeshivas, and HaRav Sholom Weinberger, av
beis din of Tchaba, board members presented a detailed
report on the kollel's projects, showing the nearly $7-
million budget was distributed to the needy in a very
dignified manner last year, without extensive advertising.
HaRav Weiss was very impressed by the development of the
Kollel in every area, noting the support it receives from all
gedolei Yisroel, which is evident in the public's
trust in Kollel Shomrei Hachomos.
The kollel board noted development and construction of
botei knesses and mikvo'os in all of the
kollel's neighborhoods, as well as the parents' home and the
highly professional nursing care hospital.
