Jerusalem's Street Name Committee, headed by Mayor Rabbi Uri
Lupoliansky, approved naming several streets around the city
after gedolei Torah and rabbonim.
Two of the city's newly named streets will be called after
HaRav Yitzchok Kulitz and HaRav Shalom Mashash zt"l.
According to the decision, two adjacent streets in the Emek
Arazim neighborhood, which is currently in late planning
stages, will bear the names of the two rabbonim, who served
side-by-side in the city rabbinate.
In another neighborhood a street will be named after HaRav
Yitzchok Flekser, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Sfas Emes in
Jerusalem, as well as a street named after the
mekubol, HaRav Yitzchak Kaduri zt"l.
The committee's decisions follow other decisions to name new
Jerusalem neighborhoods after gedolei Yisroel. For
instance, several months ago the committee approved giving a
neighborhood in Emek Arazim near Har Chotzvim a name that
commemorates HaRav Shach zt"l, and a neighborhood
named in honor of HaRav Ben Tzion Abba Shaul zt"l is
slated for construction at the Pi Glilot site near Har
Nof.
In order to accelerate the implementation of the street-
naming procedure, the Mayor set up another advisory committee
whose task will be to streamline the work of the committee,
process the list of approved street names and speed up their
final location if necessary.
