Knesset Defeats No-Confidence Motion Filed by UTJ
Following Budget Cuts

With a majority vote of 56 MKs from the coalition against 21
MKs from the opposition and three abstentions, on Monday a
Knesset plenum rejected a joint no-confidence motion filed by
UTJ and HaIchud HaLeumi-NRP due to "the danger of destroying
the Torah institutions and yeshivas in light of the
unprecedented cuts in their respective budgets."
Atty. De Hartoch to Be Tried for Attacking Public
Servant

Atty. Amnon De Hartoch, formerly head of support funding at
the Justice Ministry, will be held trial for attacking a
public servant. The decision was made by Commander Yochanan
Danino, head of the police's Department of Investigations and
Intelligence, who adopted the position of the Legal Charges
Department.
Government to Raise Allotments for "Second Circle"
Holocaust Survivors

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On
and Welfare Minister Yitzhak Herzog held a joint press
conference with Noah Peleg, chairman of the Center for
Organizations of Holocaust Survivors. The four presented a
government aid program for poor elderly people, including
numerous Holocaust survivors, which would increase the
allotments they are entitled to by NIS 1.5 billion ($370
million).
Thousands of Darkei Rochel Seminary Students on Strike

Some two thousand high school students went on strike at the
beginning of the week at Darkei Rochel Seminary in Jerusalem
based on orders from the Committee for a Permanent Solution
for the Seminary Facility due to the lack of classroom space
for the students.
