edolei Torah and Chassidus were on hand for a major event to
honor 314 participants from eight different regions
nationwide whose test results demonstrated a strong command
of the material in Dinei Shevi'is Hasholem, a
compilation of halachic rulings issued by gedolei
haposkim past and present.
Held Wednesday evening 10 Elul at the auditorium on Rechov
Stern in Jerusalem's Kiryat Yovel neighborhood, the event
began with a recitation of several chapters of
Tehillim. Gedolei Torah and Chassidus gave speeches
praising the thousands of yaldei Yisroel who made
special efforts to master the material.
This Shmittah year for the fourth time Degel HaTorah
continued its tradition of fostering the study of Shmittah-
related halacha for boys, young men and adults alike, who
came together at the event to declare as one, "Uvashonoh
hashevi'is...shabbos leHashem" (Vayikra 25:4).
The 314 award winners representing the various regions will
each receive a fine set of books and a certificate of
excellence.
The event featured musical accompaniment by R' Reuven Bennet
and a band led by R' Chaim Bennet.
Degel HaTorah heads offered appreciation for the help
extended by the Jerusalem Municipality's Department for Torah
Culture, led by Rabbi Gavriel Stauber.
The students were transported on dozens of Egged buses
arriving from talmudei Torah throughout Jerusalem.
