Haifa Daf Yomi Shiur Holds Siyum of Maseches Sota at HaRav Shteinman's Home

By Yechiel Sever and Y. Arieli

A siyum on Maseches Sotah held last week at the home of the Rosh Yeshiva HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman shlita left a lasting impression on the dozens of participants in the Meoros HaDaf HaYomi shiur in Haifa's Neveh Shaanan neighborhood.

At the start of the event the Rosh Yeshiva completed the tractate with a section that describes how a Tanna argued that humility has not vanished from the world because he himself was humble. But how, asked the Rosh Yeshiva, could a Tanna point out his own anovoh? He then proceeded to explain that one has to recognize his own attributes, thus even a humble man must recognize his own humility.

HaRav Yehuda Cohen, a prominent avreich in the neighborhood, was given the honor of reciting Hadran and then the Rosh Yeshiva recited Kaddish.

HaRav Dovid Kovalsky, head of the beis medrash for maggidei shiurim sponsored by Meoros Daf HaYomi, told the Rosh Yeshiva how the Daf Yomi shiurim took shape in the North, particularly in Haifa, noting that through siyata deShmaya there has been tremendous improvement in Torah learning.

The Rosh Yeshiva then offered words of encouragement to the shiur participants, who came all the way from Haifa to benefit from his support and blessings. The Rosh Yeshiva cited the words of the Haflo'oh, who said one must steal from his own time in order to study Torah and if he gives Torah study top priority his learning will invariably have a positive effect, giving him genuine spiritual joy.

At the end of the event the shiur participants approached HaRav Shteinman one by one, and he showered them with affection and praise, noting the merit they have to be able to set fixed times for Torah study.
