Mesilla, an organization that prints sifrei kodesh in
Braille, recently received a substantial donation that
allowed it to complete a project to make the entire
Chumash available to blind readers.
At a special event to mark the start of printing, Mesilla
heads, rabbonim and public figures expressed gratitude for
the important and urgently needed project.
Founded 17 years ago, Mesilla is involved in Braille projects
around the globe, including vocalized Hebrew, partially
vocalized and un-vocalized, mixed Hebrew-English text, etc.
The organization prints siddurim, machzorim, Tanachim,
leisure reading books and educational pamphlets. The
organization operates a lending library for the blind and the
seeing impaired and even distributes a portion of the books
printed at no cost.
Through its work the organization helps mainstream blind
children and allows the blind community to benefit from
quality, easy-to-use reading material.
Mesilla also organizes gatherings for the 500 readers who
subscribe to its bulletin, providing them an opportunity to
socialize and bringing joy and light to those who cannot
see.
The event was attended by Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger and
executives from Cellcom, which contributed the funding for
the publication of the Chumashim. Thanks to the
generous donation free copies of the Braille Chumash
are now available through Mesilla.
