Volunteers Left Eilat MDA Station After Pork Was Served

By Yechiel Sever

Observant Jews in Eilat were shocked to discover both pork and meat with milk dishes were served over the course of several weeks at a Magen David Adom station. Religious MDA volunteers in the city, who were completely unaware of the problem, have decided to stop working for the organization until the incident is investigated and the keilim replaced.

The volunteers say senior workers at the station knew what was taking place. Dozens of religious workers volunteer at the Eilat station, which serves the surrounding communities as well. The volunteers were not just on call, but served in ambulances, too. Many also work for Ichud Hatzoloh. "Life- saving activity won't stop, but we won't be able to come to the MDA station until the matter is investigated and the station starts to uphold kashrus," said one volunteer.

According to Magen David Adom, "This was a one-time incident that took place a year ago when a worker ate non-kosher food on a plate in the dining room. After he was upbraided, the incident was not repeated."
