Counter-Terrorism Bureau Issues Pesach Travel Advisory
By Aryeh Zissman
The Counter-Terrorism Bureau has released a travel advisory
as Pesach approaches, warning Israelis and Jews staying
abroad for Pesach to avoid as much as possible large
concentrations of Israelis. "The threat level to Israelis in
various parts of the world is concrete and high," warned the
Bureau.
Based on a speech delivered this week by Hizbullah Chairman
Hassan Nasrallah and increasingly widespread calls for
revenge for the assassination of arch-terrorist Mougniyeh six
weeks ago, the Counter-Terrorism Bureau issued a travel
advisory for Israelis and Jews scheduled to travel abroad or
who live abroad on a permanent basis. The primary warning
calls for Israeli tourists to avoid large gatherings of
Israelis, in addition to the threat of Israelis getting
abducted by terror organizations.
The travel advisory calls for travelers to remain alert to
unusual situations, to totally avoid visiting Arab and Muslim
countries and to refuse to accept gifts or various
suggestions by "suspicious figures." Travelers are also
advised to decline invitations to unexpected meetings,
"especially in out-of-the way places," and to always meet
with people only accompanied by reliable escorts.
The notice lists several countries where travel advisories do
not presently apply, but which may be unsafe to visit:
Thailand, the Philippines, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Israelis
traveling to these countries should exercise extra
caution.
