Modi'in Illit Employment a Model to be Followed

by A. Cohen

Professor Manuel Trachtenberg, who is in charge of designing a plan for the future economic development of Israel in the Prime Minister's Office, said that the employment solutions for chareidi women that are being used in Modi'in Illit (Kiryat Sefer) are a model that should be followed elsewhere in Israel. Mayor Rabbi Yaakov Guterman has done a lot to promote efforts to employ chareidi women in offshore offices in Israel that do work for American companies.

Professor Trachtenberg recommended using subsidies and tax incentives to encourage setting up such offices around the country. The offices provide services such as financial services, radiological diagnosis, technical translation, customer support and similar tasks.

"Centers like these, built near concentrations of chareidi populations and designed to employ workers from that community, can be designed to the unique requirements of this community and should allow for easy commuting from the residential neighborhoods," said Professor Trachtenberg.
