Modi'in Illit Hosts Evening for Bas Mitzvah Girls from Sderot

By Yechiel Sever

Students from Yesodei HaTorah, a Chinuch Atzmai school for girls in Sderot, took part in a special evening held last weekend (Parshas Chukas) at Nof Illit Halls in Modi'in Illit and attended by Council Head Rabbi Yaakov Guterman, public figures and school principals.

Every year the school holds an event to acknowledge girls who have reached their bas mitzvah year, but to the disappointment of many students turning 12, the event was canceled this year due to concerns over holding a large event at a time when city residents fear a Kassam rocket could fall at any time, choliloh.

The Modi'in Illit Local Council extended a helping hand to the students by holding the gathering, which was meant as a show of solidarity for Sderot residents. The idea was initially brought to Councilman Rabbi Nachum Gitler by Rabbi Yechezkel Schreiber of the Yaazoru organization in Sderot, who was seeking ways to hold an alternative event to compensate for the constant suffering of the students living under the threat of Kassam attacks.

After consulting with Rabbi Guterman, it was decided to adopt the project and organize a ceremony in Modi'in Illit. A professional staff was assembled to make all the arrangements and to ensure the students as well as their parents and relatives were pleased with the event.
