Shabbos Siren Installed at Moshav
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
A Shabbos siren system was installed in the Southern Samaria
community of Neveh Yerek to remind residents when Shabbos is
approaching.
Neveh Yerek, a secular moshav belonging to the moshav
movement, is a community of vegetable growers founded in 5711
(1951) as part of the South Samaria Local Council.
The moshav joins dozens of other secular moshavim and
kibbutzim where Shabbos sirens have been installed, in
addition to many towns and cities that have a religious
sector as well.
Like other such devices, the Shabbos siren at Neveh Yerek
includes powerful, sophisticated amplifiers and an automatic
operating system with Shabbos times for several years
programmed into the system.
All of these systems are provided courtesy of Rabbi Rafael
Halperin, chairman of the Zaakas Shabbos Association, which
has endeavored to raise awareness of the sanctity of Shabbos
in places around the country. The siren in Neveh Yerek is the
100th to be installed in Eretz Yisroel.
Shabbos sirens can also be found in Nesher, Keshet (Golan
Heights), Ashkelon, Yaavetz, Givat Yehuda, Holon, Beit
Choron, Tel Mond, Beit Chaggai, Beit Shean, Bat Yam, Givat
Ze'ev, Har Shmuel, Hadera, Tirat HaCarmel, Carmiel, Carmel,
Maaleh Adumim, Neguhot, Netanya, Sussia, Otzem, Acco, Arad,
Atlit, Kadima, Kiryat Gat, Kiryat Malachi and other
places.
