Maran HaRav Eliashiv:
"El-Al is now an imperiled [airline]. How does El-Al dare to
tamper with Shabbos and release itself from keeping Shabbos
Kodesh?" In response to both individuals and groups Maran
said, "It is a dishonor to Shomayim and undesirable to
fly with El-Al even in cases of large monetary losses."
HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman:
"Traveling on El-Al under the current circumstances is a
chilul Hashem and to avoid chilul Hashem one
has to do whatever necessary and monetary losses do not make
it permissible."
HaRav Shmuel Halevy Wosner:
"It is a mitzvah for anyone who can to cancel their flight
ticket on El-Al and travel with a different company."
HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz:
Those who came to inquire were told in no uncertain terms to
cancel their flights on El-Al, even at the cost of seemingly
harming fundraising efforts for a yeshiva. "The importance of
Shabbos stands above all else and all who honor it will not
see any loss," HaRav Lefkowitz said.
On a separate occasion he instructed Vaadas HaRabbonim "not
to compromise on any condition listed in the agreement Vaadas
HaRabbonim is presenting to the heads of El-Al. If they yield
on even the smallest condition in the long run no condition
will be carried out."
HaRav Chaim Kanievsky:
"Now that El-Al has harmed Shabbos openly, flying [El-Al]
could involve a danger to life and limb, for Shabbos
observance provides protection and guards against all the
plotters constantly scheming to harm it, chas vesholom
. . . When a shomer-Shabbos Jew flies El-Al despite
its undermining of the sanctity of Shabbos it is a grave
instance of chilul Hashem."
HaRav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg:
Every travel agent "should stop selling [tickets for El-Al
flights] since this assists transgressors, and should not
worry about losing income for this is a part of Shabbos and
Yom Tov expenses." He also instructed a family member to
choose a different airline, even if it involved a substantial
monetary loss.
Rabbonim in London:
In accordance with gedolei Yisroel in Eretz
Hakodesh chareidi rabbonim in London are instructing
every Jew who feels the sanctity of Shabbos burning in him
and who cherishes the campaign to uphold Shabbos observance
in Eretz Hakodesh to take monetary losses rather than
cause chilul Hashem chas vesholom.
