De Hartoch Transferred from His Post

By Yechiel Sever and Betzalel Kahn

Atty. Amnon De Hartoch, who slapped MK Rabbi Yaakov Cohen in a corridor of the Knesset building six weeks ago, was removed from his post as head of support funding at the Justice Ministry and given a temporary Justice Ministry job that does not require visits to the Knesset. The decision was reached during a meeting of the Civil Service Commission.

De Hartoch caused a national uproar when he lost control and struck a public servant during the course of a heated exchange. Following the incident a police complaint was filed against De Hartoch, who was then banned from going to the Knesset. As a result he suspended himself.

On Sunday Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander decided, based on a Justice Ministry recommendation, to restore De Hartoch to a post in the ministry, but in a different capacity.

Following the decision MK Rabbi Yaakov Cohen said the question of how a person who undermined democratic guidelines could work at the Justice Ministry is not his business, but now it is clear to all that De Hartoch cannot return to the post he occupied. "I'm not seeking revenge," said Rabbi Cohen. "The greatest gain will be if he does not have a hand in all of the sensitive and vital [matters], and that will be our reward."
