MEMOIRS
Delivering the Goods
Reminiscences of the Inception of Bais Yaakov of Baltimore

by Rochel Leah Perlman

I remember very well the first time I walked past the future home of the Bais Yaakov in Baltimore. The grounds included acres of land, dozens of trees and lush lawns surrounding one large building. Alongside it was a small building that had served former owners as a stable for their horses and buggy and which became a roomy garage.

Eretz Yisroel at All Costs
by E. Weil and B. Schwartz

They are well known figures at the airports, which is almost their second home, as they `commute' cross-continent to their workplaces, to remain for a few days, weeks or even months. But the home base is always Eretz Yisroel. They wouldn't trade that for anything . . .

Aliya
by Sara Glaser

"To be able to go to the Kotel to pour my heart out to Hashem whenever I want, knowing that there is no other place in the world where I can be closer to Him, that alone is enough of a reason to live in Jerusalem, the holiest city in the Holy Land."

A Tribute to Mrs. Rivka Ginsburg, o"h
The Sara Schneirer of Special Education

It was 6:30 a.m. on a Shabbos morning in the winter of 5714 (1954). Outside, the Yerusholayim weather was stormy, with a howling, biting cold wind and the threat of an imminent downpour. Under their heavy down quilts, the Porush children burrowed, savoring the warmth and comfort of their beds. All was quiet as Abba got ready to go to shul.

BOOK REVIEW
Caring
A Jewish Guide to Caregiving

by Naomi Brudner
Reviewed by Sheindel Weinbach

"When you care enough to give the very best." That, if I recall, was the Hallmark logo in my time; it may still be the motto for the classy, classic greeting card company that was the hallmark of the field. Since the fifties, when spending twenty-five cents on a beautiful card with a heartwarming message inside (that rhymed) really meant you "cared," that verb has taken on a much broader meaning.

CREATIVITY CORNER
CHARACTER IMPROVEMENT AND ART

by Devora Piha

Arts and Crafts are expressions of concepts in life done creatively. Arts and crafts can be presented in a way that teaches life skills. With some forethought, we can incorporate middos training into the afternoon arts and craft hour at home.

Healthy Hints: Echinacea
by Dr. Reuven Bruner, Ph.D

When you feel a cold, coming on, reach for echinacea. The dried root and leaves of the purple coneflower can help address the symptoms of the common cold, flu, sore throat, and other simple infections.

Your Medical Questions Answered!
by Joseph B. Leibman, MD

I was asked to write about stroke again. This is such an important topic, and has been in the news with the prime minister's recent stroke. Chest pain has been in news for a long time, and most people know that chest pains or pressures must receive medical attention. But stroke received less attention, because we didn't have much that helped. Now things are changing.
