Achsania Shel Torah Steps Up Activity in Preparation for
Summer Zman

Achsania Shel Torah, which began operations in Jerusalem at
the beginning of the winter zman, plans to increase
its activity as the summer zman commences next week.
Initiated and encourage by gedolei Yisroel and
roshei yeshivos, the organization works to assist
hundreds of yeshiva students, especially those living near
Mir Yeshiva, find solutions for independent housing.
The organization was set up to help yeshiva students meet
their housing needs, both in terms of ruchniyus and
gashmiyus. Rooms and apartments are in high demand in
chareidi neighbors in the central and northern parts of
Jerusalem, where thousands of young men from other cities in
Eretz Yisroel and around the world come to learn Torah in the
halls of the city's holy yeshivas.
Gedolei Torah and roshei yeshivos printed an
announcement saying they would only rent apartments for their
students via the Achsania Shel Torah vaad. The
announcement also asked those who are already renting
apartments to move and seek housing through the vaad.
During the winter the organization managed to arrange living
quarters for hundreds of yeshiva students in Beit Yisrael,
Meah Shearim and other neighborhoods.
At the end of the last zman and the beginning of
bein hazmanim the vaad staff was asked to find
housing for students planning to arrive this week, as well as
students whose housing contracts have expired. According to
reports, a heavy stream of older bochurim and
apartment owners seeking to rent out their apartments are
turning to the vaad, including apartment owners in
more out-of-the- way locations.
Achsania Shel Torah heads say the organization is working to
make provisions for the students' other needs as well. "There
has been interest in foodstuffs for talmidim as well
as meeting their spiritual needs, such as chavrusas or
linking them with a suitable chaburoh, etc."
