Ed: At the end of last week's book review on Let Them
Journey, I threw out a question to the author if a sequel
was in the offing. This is her reply:
Dear Shaindel,
I am pleased you like the book. Your review is marvellous.
You mentioned that I claim that I did not touch up the
stories. It is, in fact, reality. I asked two people to edit
the book. However, they both wanted to completely rewrite the
stories and I wouldn't let them edit the book. I told Pesah
Leah to edit to make it readable but not to alter the
vocabulary. I went to Max Oestrich to get his signature to
allow publication and took his story. He read it and said
'There's not a word of a lie here.' The distributor wanted to
make the words American but I refused to alter one word.
The sequel? I don't intend to put out another Let them
Journey, but I would like to put out a book for children,
the working title of which is taken from later on in the
parshah — And the Children Journeyed.
This will include stories, photos, illustrations, archive
material and historical facts relating to the stories. The
Telshestone English Library, one of the biggest Kosher
English Libraries in the country, welcomes members who do not
live in Kiryat Yearim Telshestone.
Some readers who have read to their children some of the
stories from Let them Journey have told us that their
children were enthralled, others were shocked. One reader
told us that she believed that it is vital that our children
know that they are links in a chain and not the beginning of
the generations.
One of our next books will therefore be a book featuring,
among other things, stories of the 20th century written for
children.
If you have a story relating to your life, which would be of
interest to the children of today, please contact the library
at telshestoneenglishlibrary@yahoo.com or write to the
library at PO Box 456, Kiryat Telshestone, DN Harei Yehudah
90840, with your name and telephone number.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Hall
