Gala Daf Yomi Event in Haifa Marks End of Yuma, Start of Succah

By Y. Ariel

Hundreds of Daf Yomi learners were joined by gedolei Torah and gedolei Chassidus, roshei yeshivos and rabbonim from neighborhoods, towns and cities throughout the North at an event in Haifa on Monday to mark the completion of maseches Yuma and the start of maseches Succah.

The event was held in the North to recognize the extraordinary dedication shown by Daf Yomi learners and maggidei shiurim during the recent war. Participants arrived in cars and buses from every part of Northern Israel, filling the Municipal Conference Hall to capacity. An overflow crowd watched the event on a giant screen outside the hall.

HaRav Yosef Kudari, a Daf Yomi maggid shiur in Kiryat Herzog for 13 years, was invited to give the final shiur on maseches Yuma, and the opening shiur for maseches Succah was delivered by HaRav Chaim Dovid Kovalsky, head of the Meoros Daf HaYomi beis medrash.

HaRav Avrohom Tzvi Margolis, the rov of Carmiel, read a letter of support from Maran HaRav Eliashiv shlita. "Certainly at a time like this there should be more and more shiurei Torah and lomdei Torah, for Torah has the power to protect, and may all who are involved in this be blessed from the Source of Blessings," he wrote.

The siyum itself was led by the Admor of Seret- Vishnitz and the central address was given by HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman shlita.

The event was organized by Meoros HaDaf HaYomi, which recently distributed 16,000 copies of a newly published edition of maseches Succah, including diagrams, illustrations and a section called Meoros Halochoh. The current Daf Yomi cycle will reach the end of the halochos on succah construction before Succos arrives.
