New Library in Ramat Shlomo
by Betzalel Kahn
A library with an extensive collection of Torah works and
reading material is currently being built at the community
center in Jerusalem's Ramat Shlomo neighborhood. The
construction of the library was made possible through the
efforts of Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, who allocated land,
gave funding priority and arranged financing.
The library, which will be run by the Department for Torah
Culture, will have separate sections for children, older
children and adults. Advanced computer services and other
services will be provided by municipal employees. Rabbi
Gavriel Stauber, director of the Department for Torah
Culture, said the library, working in cooperation with the
local Community Administration, would also sponsor special
activities to encourage reading and enrichment for
children.
The library in Ramat Shlomo joins the libraries the
Department for Torah Culture operates in Bayit Vegan, Romema,
Sanhedria, the Jewish Quarter, Ezrat Torah, Neveh Yaakov,
Ramot and the mobile library. The activities the municipality
is sponsoring this year at existing libraries are based on
directives from the mayor to substantially increase the Torah
culture budget.
Torah Culture Commissioner Rabbi Avrohom Feiner said, "The
expansion of services in Ramat Shlomo is part of the
municipality's trend toward expanding cultural activities
this year in all of the chareidi neighborhoods around the
city."
