Continued Cuts in Children's Allowances Cancelled

By Eliezer Rauchberger

The Knesset Labor and Welfare Committee approved bringing a government law to cancel continued cuts in Children's Allowances for second and third readings.

The big cut in Children's Allowances passed three years ago was slated for gradual implementation over a period ending in 2009. Now, based on a coalition agreement with Shas, the Knesset is canceling the forthcoming phases of the cut, freezing them at the current levels.

According to the proposed law the allowance for a third child born before June 2003 will be NIS 178 ($40). The allowance for children beyond the third child born before 2003 will be NIS 329 ($70).
