Dr. Joseph Leibman has been appointed director of emergency
medicine (EM) at Bikur Cholim Hospital in Jerusalem.
Dr. Leibman, one of the country's top experts on Emergency
Medicine (EM) and the medical columnist of Yated
Ne'eman, said he intends to improve and streamline
patient service by accelerating their transfer to the various
wards or releasing them.
Dr. Leibman hopes to streamline emergency room care by hiring
EM specialists. This promises to shorten waiting time and
accelerate diagnostic and treatment decisions. Such a move
has yet to be implemented in Jerusalem hospitals.
Hospital Director Barry Bar Tzion said he is certain Dr.
Leibman's assuming the post will reinvigorate and bring
innovation to the system, which will be reflected in patient
service.
Dr. Leibman, a resident of Kiryat Sefer, moved to Eretz
Yisroel in 5757 following extensive work in the medical field
in the US. Upon his arrival he began running the emergency
room at Mayanei Hayeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak. Three years
ago he was recognized as an EM expert by the Health Ministry
and at the same time began working as an EM physician at
Sheba Hospital-Tel Hashomer.
Dr. Leibman also serves as chief editor of an international
academic journal on EM, chief editor of articles on computer
systems for EM physicians, an international lecturer on EM,
an IDF guide for the treatment of trauma, a board member of
the Israeli Association of Emergency Medicine Physicians and
the winner of awards of excellence from the Dr. Appelbaum
Foundation and the Darzhnik Gottlieb Foundation -- as well as
the writer of our own medical column.
Upon assuming his new post Dr. Leibman said he found the
nurses and doctors in the emergency room are one of the best
emergency room staffs in the country and is certain that
through teamwork the emergency room can reach a level of
international excellence.
