Electric Company Performs Work on Shabbos

The Electric Company performed extensive work on Shabbos
Kodesh at Hashiva Junction, blocking numerous roads to allow
the technicians to carry out their task.
Deputy Minister of Welfare Rabbi Avrohom Ravitz said for
years the Electric Company has been notorious for working on
Shabbos, taking advantage of its monopoly to impose large-
scale Shabbos desecration on the public. "Our answer to these
chilulei Shabbos is to accelerate the process of
ceasing the Electric Company's monopoly in Israel," he said.
"The government must finally start preserving the Jewishness
of the State of Israel and stop making the claim these acts
of Shabbos desecration are pikuach nefesh."
MK Rabbi Moshe Gafni contacted the Prime Minister on Motzei
Shabbos to remonstrate against the Shabbos desecration that
took place, after a long hiatus from such occurrences. "This
work could have been carried out on Friday rather than
Shabbos and therefore I see this as a serious breach in the
wall of Shabbos," he said.
