Rav Avrohom Weiss zt"l, and Rav Ze'ev Boruch Teitelbaum zt"l and Mrs. Teitelbaum o"h, Killed in Car Accident in the US

By Tzvi Sofer

Three Williamsburg residents, Rav Avrohom Weiss zt"l, Rav Ze'ev Boruch Teitelbaum zt"l, and his wife Mrs. Feige Teitelbaum o"h, were laid to rest on Erev Shabbos following a frightful car accident Friday afternoon.

The three were on their way from Williamsburg to a Satmar vacation camp in the Catskills when a truck crushed the minivan they were traveling in. At 2:00 p.m. the minivan crossed the traffic divider on the turnpike near Kiryas Yoel in Monroe, colliding head-on with an oncoming semitrailer.

Numerous rescue workers arrived at the scene, including Hatzoloh of Monroe, and the bodies of the victims were identified within a matter of minutes. Despite the late hour, the Satmar Chevra Kadisha rushed to organize a levaya for the three victims and two hours before Shabbos they were buried in the Kiryas Yoel Cemetery to the sound of bitter weeping by the family members and local residents.

The driver of the vehicle, Rav Avrohom Weiss a 34-year-old father of three small girls, was the son of HaRav Osher Zelig Weiss ylct"a. He worked as a financial advisor and as part of his work he assisted many Jews and families in need. Rav Ze'ev Boruch Teitelbaum, 23, was the son of HaRav Shmuel Teitelbaum ylct"a, and studied at a kollel in Williamsburg. Two years ago he married Mrs. Feige Teitelbaum, a 20-year-old teacher and the daughter of HaRav Aharon Yeshayoh Fish ylct"a.

As a result of the severe accident traffic was backed up for over 30 miles. Many religious drivers making their way to the Catskills for Shabbos were held up for hours until the road was cleared. Members of the chessed organization Chaverim maneuvered through the stopped traffic on motor scooters, bringing food and drinks to drivers. Many Satmar Chassidim from Kiryas Yoel offered to host drivers for Shabbos as the afternoon hours began to wane.
