Repeat Warning Against All Cell Phone Use by Yeshiva Students

By Betzalel Kahn

With the start of the summer zman at the yeshivas, the letter by gedolei Yisroel warning yeshiva students not to possess cell phones, including the new kosher models, was publicized again.

Signed by Maran HaRav Eliashiv, HaRav Shteinman, HaRav Lefkowitz and HaRav Wosner, shlita, the letter reads, "We hereby issue a request and warning that whoever bears the appellation `talmid yeshiva' refrain from possessing any cellular device, including the new device, and may each individual merit having only Torah study his portion and merit exceptional siyata deShmaya in ruchniyus and gashmiyus."

The letter was first sent to roshei yeshivos a few weeks ago and is now being re-publicized at the request of maranan verabonon to call attention to the severity of the matter.

Roshei yeshivos and educators asked to remind talmidim that Maran HaRav Eliashiv said that one of the great foundations of a ben yeshiva is total imperviousness to the vanities of This World and that a yeshiva student who has a cell phone, choliloh, is unworthy of being called a "ben yeshiva."
