The City of Jerusalem, the national government, the
Environmental Ministry and other bodies have begun assisting
the Renovation and Development Company for the Jewish Quarter
of Jerusalem's Old City to rebuild the Churvah Shul.
The beis knesses, which was completely destroyed in
5708 (1948) during the War of Independence, will be
reconstructed for Jewish Quarter residents. In addition to
financial assistance, the City of Jerusalem is also helping
the Renovation and Development Company obtain building
permits.
In order to implement the construction project, preparations
are underway to issue a tender two months from now for the
construction of the frame, the first and most difficult phase
of construction. Technical material for the tender is already
being prepared.
The Renovation and Development Company has also begun listing
the Old City in the TABO registry. Until now the houses in
the Jewish Quarter were not registered.
Jerusalem Mayor Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, who was among the
plan's initiators and promoters, said the municipality will
continue to promote projects and continue working for the
sake of Jewish Quarter residents and tourists coming to visit
the neighborhood.
