Did YOU know that ...
by Dr. Reuven Bruner,Ph.D.
. . . Sugar (sucrose) is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally
in every fruit and vegetable. It is a major product of
photosynthesis, the process by which plants transform the
sun's energy into food. Sugar occurs in greatest quantities
in sugar cane and sugar beets from which it is separated for
commercial use.
Other nutritive sweeteners (sugars) in the diet include
honey, maple syrup, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup,
fructose, and fruit juice concentrates.

. . . Cardiorespiratory fitness in early adulthood
significantly decreases the chance of developing high blood
pressure and diabetes, both major risk factors for heart
disease and stroke in middle age, according to a new study
supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
(NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health.
Fitness also reduces the risk for the metabolic syndrome, a
constellation of factors that includes excess abdominal fat,
elevated blood pressure and triglycerides, and low levels of
the high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the "good"
cholesterol.
