The Midrash Shmuel Haggadah (Hard-cover, 285 pp.)
Compiled by the students of Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel, Jerusalem
Reviewed by Y. Shaw

This year's newest addition to the outstanding English haggodos is the Midrash Shmuel Haggadah. This Haggadah, with original insights, commentaries, and explanations, was produced by the students of Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel in Jerusalem. Its professional appearance and layout, including original illustrations, make it a most appealing addition to the Pesach table. The commentaries are concise and to the point, and the text of the Haggadah itself is set off in large letters and is easy to read.

While many other Haggodos provide a homogeneous style of commentary, the Midrash Shmuel Haggadah is eclectic. From halachic insights to words of mussar, from clear analyses of Talmudic topics to insights of the great Chassidic masters, the writings contributed by over 100 students of the Yeshiva contain something for every reader.

The central feature of the Midrash Shmuel Haggadah is the foreword by the rosh yeshiva, HaRav Binyomin Moskovits, published in both Hebrew and in English. In this enthralling essay, HaRav Moskovits asks forty basic questions on one passage of the Haggadah, and he proposes a single, unifying answer for all of them. His answer contains profound lessons for Pesach and a profound outlook on life for all times. This phenomenal essay is a must-read for anyone seeking to enhance his understanding and appreciation of Pesach, and is worth far more than the price of the book itself.

In Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel, students from around the world enjoy HaRav Moskovits' clear and methodical approach to analyzing the gemora and the close attention that the staff gives to their personal development. Indeed, their growth in learning and in yir'as Shomayim is reflected in their writings in the Midrash Shmuel Haggadah.

The sefer can be purchased directly from Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel (972-2-643-3597).
