CER Visit to Ukraine
by Yated Ne'eman Staff
In a recent visit to the Ukraine, Councilor Aba Dunner, the
Secretary General of the Conference of European Rabbis,
visited a number of institutions in order to establish the
needs of the local community and ways in which they could be
assisted by Diaspora Jewry.
The tour included a visit to children's homes run by Chief
Rabbi Yaakov Bleich. This complex includes a kindergarten, a
boys' school, a girls' school and a Yeshiva housed in various
buildings on the outskirts of Kiev. The programs of the
Jewish Confederation of Ukraine, which are under the auspices
of Chief Rabbi Bleich, include synagogues, the provision of
kashrus facilities, a residential children's home and
assistance for the elderly in the Harry & Jeannette Weinberg
Kiev Home for Assisted Living.
During his visit, Councilor Dunner also went to Babi Yar,
the site where tens of thousands of Jews were slaughtered
during the Holocaust. He also met with the Dutch Ambassador,
with whom he discussed European funding for projects in the
Ukraine.
