Dozens of yeshiva students participated in a program known as
Yeshivas Hemshech Hazman held during the first week of Nisan
for the seventh consecutive year.
Yeshivas Hemshech Hazman was set up in a quiet location
sequestered from the bein hazmanim atmosphere to allow
talmidim the repose needed to delve into their Torah
studies and to tap the potential these days have for
spiritual uplift.
Various roshei yeshivos came to deliver shiurim and
talks at the yeshiva, held this year near Beit Shemesh at
Moshav Kislon. The opening shiur was given by rosh
yeshivas Be'er HaTorah HaRav Gavriel Yosef Levy and later
another shiur was given by HaRav Yehuda Aryeh
Hershler, one of the roshei yeshivos of Yeshivas Beis
Matisyohu.
On Shabbos HaRav Nachum Neventzal, one of the rabbonim at
Yeshivas Rabbenu Chaim Ozer, was on hand to enhance the
atmosphere with his talks.
The chizuk talk preceding bein hazmanim was
given by HaRav Shmuel Markowitz, one of the roshei yeshivos
at Yeshivas Ponovezh. "The month of Nisan is a month of
preparation for receiving the Torah, and the preparation is
through smashing the material world," he said. "Lechtech
acharei bamidbor is what the Torah was given for: to
allow spirituality to overcome materialism. Moshe Rabbenu
stood and said to the mal'ochim, `Do you have
kibbud ov vo'eim?' The answer is that in this world
there is materialism and what the Torah wants most is the
subjugation of the yetzer, and the favorable
resolution of this conflict is what HaKodosh Boruch Hu
is waiting for. For when a person chooses properly he chooses
HaKodosh Boruch Hu against yetzer hora. This is
a power granted to people and not to mal'ochim.
Therefore matan Torah is deserved."
At the program's completion various siyumim were held
on masechtos learned during the winter zman.
The organizers wish to extend their thanks to all who helped
make Yeshivas Hemshech Hazmanim possible.
