The Support Committee at the Ministry of Welfare has
announced that funds from tzedokoh boxes at various
holy sites were distributed to 12 different soup kitchens
around the country.
Headed by HaRav Shmuel Rabinovitz, rov of the Kosel Maarovi
and the holy sites, Vaadas Hatzedokoh, the body responsible
for distributing the tzedokoh money collected at the
holy sites, decided to dedicate one-third of the funds
collected to soup kitchens around the country, based on
criteria set by the Welfare Ministry.
The other two-thirds will go towards developing the Kosel and
holy sites according to plans jointly formulated by the rov
of the holy sites and the National Center for the Development
of Holy Sites.
Welfare Minister Zevulun Orlev and the ministry's director-
general, Prof. Dov Goldberg, took part in the decision. Among
the 12 soup kitchens chosen, which received several thousand
shekels each, were Eshel Yerushalayim, Chazon Yeshaya, Be'er
Sheva, Chasdei Yosef, Meir Ponim and Ezer MiTzion.
Based on recommendations by Chief Rabbis Shlomo Moshe Amar
and Yonah Metzger, this year the tzedokoh funds will
be used for Kimcho DePischo, which will be distributed to non-
government organizations that meet Welfare Ministry
criteria.
